Colorado supermarket shooting suspect charged with 10 counts of 1st degree murder

According to local authorities on Tuesday, the suspect in a Colorado supermarket shooting on Monday has been charged with ten counts of first-degree murder.

A gunman opened fire in a Boulder, Colorado, grocery store Monday afternoon, killing ten people, including a police officer.

The ten victims, whose names were released at a news conference Tuesday morning, range in age from 20 to 65 years old and include Eric Talley, 51, an 11-year veteran of the Boulder police force.

According to a statement released by his father, Talley was the father of seven children and had recently been looking for a less dangerous job.

The 21-year-old male suspect, identified as Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, was in stable condition after being shot by police officers at a King Soopers location in Boulder, about 45 kilometers northwest of Denver.

At the press conference, Governor Jared Polis said, "My heart aches today." “Not only have we lost ten lives, but this is a true nightmare for all of us.”

The motive for the shooting, which occurred six days after a gunman went on a killing spree in the Atlanta area, has not yet been revealed by police.

On Monday, police provided an update on the details of the shooting.

“With regard to the suspect, officers were dispatched to Kings Soopers at approximately 2:40 p.m. Monday, March 22. “They arrived on the scene in minutes and immediately entered the store and engaged the suspect,” said Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold.

“There was a brief exchange of fire. The suspect was shot, and several other officers were hurt.”

The suspect was being treated at a hospital and was scheduled to be released on Tuesday.

According to Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty, he will then be booked into the county jail.
